NCSY Camp Sport’s week two report!

Dear NCSY Camp Sports Parents,

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the beginning of their summer. Here at Camp Sports we are having an awesome time. Even in the short amount of time we have been together, it is great to see friendships forming, sports games in high gear, and each boy having a meaningful and very fun summer! We can already tell the special group of boys we have here this summer.

Wow! What a great first full week of camp it has been! Our first Shabbos here together was inspiring, filled with ruach, dancing, singing at the meals, and great bonding time. We had a special treat to be joined by Dr. and Mrs. Luchins, devoted NCSY Board Members as well as two of the most caring NCSY alumni, for Shabbos. Dr. Luchins enlightened us about Israel and current events. On Saturday Night, we went bowling and everyone had a blast.

On Sunday, the boys enjoyed some learning in the morning, then participated in various spirited and competitive league games. At night, we went swimming and had a chance to relax and have fun after our long day of sports. On Monday, we experienced our first (of many) trips here at Camp Sports. We headed out to Lancaster, PA. Laserdome, where we had a great time playing laser tag, frisbee golf, and laser light shows! Then we went to Spooky Nook, the largest indoor sports complex in the Northeast! On Tuesday, we returned to our normal schedule with some meaningful learning, followed by great sports. We kicked off our optional learning program, “Super Seder,” with the Beis Midrash filled with so many boys choosing the option to learn. We ended the night with an intense game of Capture the Flag, where dorm floors competed against each other.

On Wednesday, we found out that the minor league baseball game was cancelled at 3 pm as we got set to load the bus! Apparently even though it did not rain in Baltimore it did rain a lot in Hagerstown. The whole camp quickly regrouped and pulled together to make the most of the day and had a great time in camp! We played two league games followed by a delicious BBQ. Thursday was a packed and exciting day for us here at Camp Sports even though it rained most of the day. We went to Dave and Busters followed by Stratosphere, an indoor trampoline park! We had a fantastic time! When we returned, the boys got to choose between different night activities, such as; tzitzis making, woodworking, and a wiffle ball tournament. Even though it was a jam packed day, the boys stayed up late participating in mishmar which featured impressive learning and great prizes. We are looking forward to another great Shabbos together.

Today we had learning groups in the morning and spent time preparing for our Saturday night Tefillin Rap Off. We are heading out to play one league game and then to Walmart to once again stock up for the week.

Stay tuned :)

Thank you very much and Have a wonderful shabbos,

Rabbi Jon Green
