NCSY Camp Sports Week 1

Dear NCSY Camp Sports Parents,

Thank G-d camp is off to an amazing start. With teens from across the United States and Israel, we have a great mix of wonderful young men who have all had a great first two days here at Camp Sports.

I will share weekly reports with you on Fridays, but I wanted to let you know of other ways you can find out about what is happening at Camp Sports. We have exciting ways for you to connect with camp in ongoing and engaging ways. We have a camp blog which will have updates on camp events, a Facebook page and a Twitter handle which showcases daily pictures and videos of camp events. All of these accounts are updated throughout the day.   Make sure to check out campsports.ncsy.org for the blogs, Facebook page, and tweets.

NCSY Camp Sports’ active Twitter Handle uses Hashtags which you can follow for intraday updates. Our Twitter name (“Handle”) is @CampSports2012 and our Hashtag is #Campsports (on Twitter you can type in the #campsports on Twitter to view all of the Camp Sports tweets). Go to twitter.com for more information on how to sign up for free.

On Wednesday, once all the NCSYers arrived we had a brief orientation program followed by dinner and a dorm floor vs. floor dodgeball game. Congratulations to the second floor for their victory! The second floor will receive an Ice Cream Party next week.

On Thursday, we kicked off our learning program in the morning. Afterward, the NCSYers found out which sports team they are on. We played two games and it was great to see how quickly the teams came together.  We try and offer a lot of rewards for positive behavior in camp, so the first “prize” took place after dinner when 15 boys won a pool party that they went to that night. The rest of the camp signed up for a night activity of volleyball or woodworking or just used the time to rest up for the next day of fun activities.

Our very famous optional Thursday night learning program took place at 10:30 pm. The learning in the beit midrash was beautiful. We held a raffle and the raffle prize was super fun. We topped off the night with a bbq at the end topped off to end the first full day at camp.

Our daily schedule has davening(prayers) at 8:00 am followed by breakfast and individualized learning groups until 12:00 pm. After lunch we either go on a trip or play league sports, we then shower and head to dinner at 6:00 pm. Evenings are spent with activities, open sports, some classes, and trips. You may hear about some of these things from your son, but since he is a “teenage boy” and may not let you know, you can use these emails to keep track of what he is doing and even ask him a question or two about camp. Yesterday was one of those “regular days.”

Today we played one sports game and went to Wal-Mart to Rollback the prices and stock up our dorm rooms. I let the boys know that they should get ready for shabbos since it is a big day, that is why we should all shower and put on bigdei shabbos (shabbos clothing). We look forward to having a great shabbos filled with ruach and a great week. We will hopefully be going to a Minor League baseball game and tubing, but you can read about that next week, or in our blog, https://campsports.ncsy.org/summer-2017/
