Camp Sports Pre Shabbos News

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much for allowing  your son to join us at Camp NCSY Sports this summer! We will do our best to make this summer an exciting, fun and growth oriented experience.  I hope to send you weekly updates throughout the summer. I also encourage you to follow us on the Camp Sports Blog, our Twitter account, and Facebook to see pictures and more. You can find everything at http://campsports.ncsy.org/

Our daily schedule has davening (prayers) at 8:15 AM, followed by breakfast and individualized learning groups until lunch at noon. After lunch, we either go on a trip or play league sports, followed by showers and dinner at 6:00 PM. Evenings are filled with activities, open sports, some classes, and trips. You may hear about some of these from your son, but since he is a “teenage boy” and may not let you know, you can use these emails to keep track of what’s going on here, and you can even ask him a question or two about camp.

Thursday was our first full day of camp.  We opened our morning learning program with a video, then moved on to the dull knife challenge (ask your son for more details). Following some great project based learning, the NCSYers then split up for their first league games.  Following league games and supper  we went to our first night activity.  For most of the NCSYers this was the first time playing bubble soccer, which was awesome.  The boys were excited about the first day and each activity was better than the next!

Every Thursday night we have a special learning program which is followed by a weekly raffle. The prizes ranged this week from a summer fridge for your room, a case of gatorade, NCSY gear and with tons of food and electronics in between. We ended the night with a very delicious late-night Chulent and kumzits.

Today we  played one game of sports and went to Wal-Mart to “rollback the prices” and stock up our dorm rooms. I let the boys know that they should get ready for shabbos since it is a big day, that is why we should all shower and put on bigday shabbos (shabbos clothing). We look forward to having a great shabbos filled with ruach followed by a great week! We will hopefully be going on a hike, to paintball and a ropes course next week. We hope on Sunday we will have a meaningful program for the fast day on the 17th of Tammuz. You will hear about all of that in next week’s email or can follow our our blog, http://www.ncsysummer.com/blog/camp_sports

A special Mazel to Rabbi Dani Cooper and his family on the birth of a baby girl on the first day of camp. Rabbi Cooper is the Assistant Director and we look forward to the whole family joining us down in Baltimore soon.

Thank you for sending your son to camp this summer!

Have a great Shabbos,

Rabbi Jon Green
