Camp Sports Dvar Torah!
Dear Parents and NCSYers, I think that it's time to get an NCSYer to write one of these. Don't get me wrong, I love the advisers and especially their divrei torah. But frankly, after a month of camp I think that I (and you guys) have had enough. The problem is that none of the NCSYers has taken up this great task. So until then, let's enjoy a terrific dvar torah by Daniel Goetz: In this week's parsha, the Torah says "hayom hazeh Hashem Elokecha mitzavecha la'asot et hachukim haeleh v'et hamishpatim......", this day, Hashem, your G-d, commands you to perform these decrees and the statutes.... The somewhat extra words of "this day" teach us a valuable lesson. When we are presented with certain tasks in life, it is crucial that we do not push them aside for a later time. People often say "today I don't have the time to work on my spirituality, but there's always tomorrow". And once tomorrow comes they say the same thing again. Sadly, this can go on for days, weeks, years, and even a lifetime. Also, everyday carries with it its own set of tasks. What has to be done today can't be done tomorrow, for there are other tasks designated for that day. There is a pasuk in sefer bereshis that says "v'Avraham v'Sarah zikainim ba'im b'yamim", Avraham and Sarah were old, well on in years..... The words "ba'im b'yamim" literally mean "they came with days". Avraham and Sarah, explains the Zohar, came through life with all of their years intact, utilizing each day to the fullest in the service of the almighty. Each of us owes it to ourselves to go through our daily schedules and make sure that we are using our time wisely. It is vitally important that we discover what it is that we are supposed to be doing with our time in this world, and put that it into action. This is how we can make the most out of every moment. If we do this, then we should earn reward in this world and, ultimately, in the world to come. Have an incredible Shabbos! P.S. I think that we should learn a lesson from this dvar torah and make good use of our time by writing a camp dvar torah. Please email ydeutscher@gmail.com or yaakovwolff@gmail.com if you would like to write one. (Please read the rest in R' Fried's voice) Joe L'Blanc could have been the greatest and could have saved hockey in Montreal. But he blew his opportunity. Don't blow your opportunity!
